Truck Driver Workforce Development & Safety Assembly

09/13/23

Springfield, VA — National Truck Driver Appreciation Week – NTDAW (September 10-16, 2023) is a crucial annual event that recognizes the immense contributions of truck drivers to the American economy and daily life. These unsung heroes play a pivotal role in the transportation sector, moving approximately 11.5 billion tons of freight ($700 billion) each year, accounting for over 70% of all goods transported in the United States.

With an estimated 60-80,000 vacant driver jobs open, proper training is essential to address this shortage while ensuring safety on the roads. Well-trained drivers not only enhance efficiency but also promote road safety, underscoring the critical importance of investing in driver education and recognition during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

With proper training and experience, truck drivers can access competitive salaries, benefits, and the potential for advancement within the industry. It’s important to recognize that truck driving

provides a rewarding career choice that allows individuals to support themselves and their families while helping to keep the nation’s supply chains flowing smoothly.

If you are interested in becoming a truck driver, American Trucking Association’s (ATA) Interstate One image tractor-trailer will be at Interstate Relocation and open to the public (September 14, 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.). The 53-foot show trailer, features a mobile conference room with seven screens, educational displays, an L3Harris simulator that offers a realistic experience of driving a tractor-trailer through different weather conditions, and room for interactive “on-the-road” driving demonstrations. Interstate One is ATA’s “Show and Tell,” allowing the public to see firsthand the trucking industry’s initiatives, including the newest safety technology, and what an impact trucking has on everyday life.
