Our expertise knows no boundaries
Moving overseas doesn’t mean you need to overstress — a move of this magnitude brings enough emotion, excitement and unknown already. So as you prepare for your international move, you can entrust us to take care of your most valued possessions.
As an experienced international moving and international move management company, Interstate provides the experience and proficiency you can trust to safely and securely move your items no matter your destination. Our move managers work closely with relocation management companies (RMCs), employers, transferees and families in helping them to manage household goods moves, and will connect them to a network of reputable and quality movers.
Easing the transition with certified expertise
This international move may be a first for your family, but it’s not our first global relocation. During our 75 plus years of experience and throughout changing international requirements, we’ve remained committed to knowing the ins and outs of cross-border moves.
With our dedication to professionalism and quality, our team has earned the highest international moving standard in the world — FAIMPlus Certification by the FIDI — the largest global alliance and measure of quality for international moving companies. We’re also a member of the International Association of Movers (IAM), an industry affiliation that signifies strength, trust, diversity, ethics, reliability and accountability. And, we maintain ISO 9001:2015 designation, another rigorous international standard of quality management, so you can look forward to your next adventure without having to worry about your move. You can depend on Interstate to deliver quality you can trust.
Throughout the move, your personal move manager will work with RMCs, transferees and families to communicate details, paperwork, schedules and logistics to eliminate the delays and worry that accompany moving abroad.
COVID-19 Update: How Omicron is Impacting International Travel
The emergence of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is prompting new travel requirements around the world – and, in many cases, further complicating international travel.
Current CDC guidance does not recommend international travel for those who are not vaccinated. If you are traveling overseas, know that COVID-19 vaccination, testing, masking and social distancing requirements vary and can change at any time. Regardless of your destination, we encourage you to bring proof of vaccination – your CDC-issued vaccine card, along with digital photos and photocopies of your card – and, if required, coronavirus test results.
Our best advice is to check the official government websites for the countries you are planning to travel through and to, particularly as your travel date approaches.

Packing items for the long haul.
Moving abroad requires a different kind of packing for land, air and sea transport.
Safe at home before going abroad.
With short- and long-term storage options, don’t let your possessions determine when and how you move.
How do I move my possessions to another country?
Moving abroad comes with its own unique set of requirements. The most common way to move belongings to another country is by shipping them via sea, though air freight is also an option for your international move. Your Relocation Manager will help you inventory items and provide guidance on what should move and what shouldn’t, as well as helping to determine the method of shipment. We’ll then help pack items in a specific freight container designed to withstand the elements.
How much does it cost to ship furniture to another country?
The cost depends on multiple factors including the number of items you’re transporting, the weight, the method of shipment, as well as the overall distance your items are moving. The best way to know the shipping cost is to discuss your specific needs with your Relocation Manager.
Is it worth shipping furniture overseas?
Short answer: it’s up to you! If your personal belongings are important to making your overseas residence feel more like a home, then by all means, ship them! If all you’re moving overseas is family heirlooms, antiques and must-have pieces, then consider purchasing more items when you get to your destination. Your dedicated Relocation Manager can help you understand the true cost of shipping these items.
How do you pack furniture for international shipping?
Packing up a home is half science, half art — and we’re good at both. Packing furniture for international shipping takes thoughtful consideration and the right equipment. First, consider any items that you can take apart. Then, protect sharp corners with bubble wrap or cardboard protectors. At Interstate, we use land, sea and air freight containers designed to withstand the toughest conditions and keep your items safe and secure.
